WHAT IS MEDICAL CODING?
Medical coding can be viewed as the translation component of the billing and coding process. While medical billing and coding are often termed together, it is important to distinguish the two as separate functions. For the medical coding process, coders take medical reports from doctors and turn it into a set of codes, which make up a vital part of the medical claim. Information within the medical reports can include: patient’s condition, the doctor’s diagnosis, a prescription, and whatever procedures the doctor or healthcare provider performed on the patient.
